The aim of the paper is to show how we can combine the pupil’s knowledge with the computational and graphical power of computer algebra and dynamic geometry systems to model some real-world phenomena. The software can serve as a bridge over mathematically or geometrically complex parts of such a process and enable us to bring selected real-world problems into mathematics classes. We will illustrate it by means of several examples, all more or less dealing with the exponential dependence, especially its manifestation through the shape of the logarithmic spiral. The examples will be solved with the use of the free open source software GeoGebra and wxMaxima.
